Training at Electrum Performance is overseen by the Head Coach and founder, Alex Sterner.
Coach Sterner took the most significant leap of his career when he studied Kinesiology at the University of Connecticut while interning in two of the Division I weight rooms with 8 different Division I teams. In this format, Coach Sterner became acquainted with individualized programs conducted in a group format - where a few coaches would spread the floor while an entire team trained.
The efficacy of this model wasn’t fully apparent until he began working in commercial fitness in a true 1-on-1 format. As soon as he was able, he brought elements from the DI environment into the private sector.
This first took place when Coach Sterner helped design the business model at Bret Contreras’s Glute Lab, which he operated for 2 years. In that time he also studied and learned as much as he could from Bret, the world’s leading expert in glute training.
Electrum Performance (and his Nutrition company FightCut) has now been Coach Sterner’s primary focus since 2019. His goal is to bring a sustainable training model to San Diego, with a coaching staff that emphasizes education and evidence-based training.
